ANDY SARGENT - CONTEMPORARY PAINTER
About - Andy Sargent
I am an artist whose work varies from expressive realism to works bordering on abstraction. My paintings are often studies of the landscape, sometimes painted at the location, or sometimes more creative, expressive pieces are executed in the studio. The landscape, an interior scene, a still life, a figure, a memory or other subject is the start, but the work often becomes less about the subject, and more about the paint and materials. Very much about mark making, use of colour and certainly not one to disguise the fact that my paintings are made of paint, I work quickly and energetically to render the images and subject matter into a new work of art totally unseen before.
I am an artist who lives with permanent spinal injury, who constantly fights pain and limited mobility day in day out. Unable to keep in contact with the art world, I create my art in near total isolation from the art scene in the UK. I am an independant artist, and not represented by any gallery or agency.
I studied at North Warwickshire College of Technology and Art from 1985 - 1987, obtaining a distinction on the BTEC Diploma in General art & design course. Here, I studied fine art under the tutelage of the respected painter Geoff Yeomans, and sculptors Dave Berry-Hart and Ed Pooley.
In 1987, I went on to study for a Degree in Fine Art at Birmingham Polytechnic, obtaining this in 1990.
I have exhibited work at -

Much of my work belongs in private collections, both here and abroad. I have also been commissioned to produce many varied works of art, including paintings, drawings and illustrations.
